How to make a good puzzle

The four steps
- 01
Choose categories
Pick a category for each of the four groups. Types, colours, generations, legendary and mythical Pokémon, and species are all built in.
- 02
Pick safe Pokémon
Choose four Pokémon per group from the safe list. It only shows Pokémon that fit that group and none of your other groups, so your puzzle has one answer.
- 03
Order and mislead
Order the groups from easiest to hardest, and add a red herring: a Pokémon that looks like it belongs in two groups.
- 04
Test and publish
Try your puzzle on the real board, then publish it. Players can like it and leave you private notes.
All 62 built-in categories
How many Pokémon fit each category. Big categories give you more choice; small ones make a group easier to spot.

Categories that overlap the most
These pairs share the most Pokémon. Putting both in one puzzle leaves fewer safe picks, but the overlap is also where the best red herrings come from.

Custom categories
You can also write your own category, such as Pokémon whose names end in -chu. We can't check those automatically, so make sure only your four fit. Players can flag puzzles with more than one answer.
FAQ
Do I need an account to make a puzzle?
No. You can build and test a puzzle without signing in. Publishing needs a free account, and your draft stays on your device while you sign in.
How do you make sure a puzzle has only one answer?
For built-in categories we only offer Pokémon that fit their own group and none of the others, and we re-check every group whenever you change a category.
How many puzzles can I publish?
Up to five a day, or two a day during your account's first 24 hours.
Can I edit a puzzle after publishing it?
No. Take it down from My puzzles and publish a fixed version instead.
Why was my puzzle hidden?
A puzzle is hidden after five player reports while moderators review it. You'll get a notification, and it shows as hidden in My puzzles.
