Pokémon Riddle — Daily Guess-the-Pokémon Puzzle
Read a short riddle told in a Pokémon’s own voice and name the species. A new Pokémon riddle every day, six languages, unlimited guesses, free.
What is a Pokémon riddle?
A Pokémon riddle is a short description written in the creature’s own voice — its shape, its habitat, the way it fights, the strange thing it does when nobody is looking — with the name deliberately left out. Your job is to recognise it from the details alone. Every riddle here describes one of 270 well-known species drawn from all nine generations, and a new one appears every day at midnight UTC.
How to solve a Pokémon riddle
Read for the physical detail first: a tail, a shell, a second mouth, wings that are not used for flying. Those pin down a silhouette faster than anything else. Next look for where it lives — a trench, a volcano, a cave, a city rooftop — because habitat usually narrows the answer to a handful of species. Then weigh the behaviour: what it eats, what it fears, what it does to intruders. Type is often implied rather than stated, so a riddle about melting rock is telling you Fire without using the word. Finally, note whether the voice sounds like a first form or a fully evolved one; riddles about guarding a territory or leading a pack almost always describe a final evolution.
Where the riddles come from
Riddles are written from structured PokéAPI data and Pokédex descriptions, then checked automatically: no Pokémon name may appear, the wording must not repeat the source text, and the riddle must be solvable before it is published.
FAQ
Is the riddle the same for everyone?
Yes. One riddle per UTC day, identical worldwide, in all six languages.
How many guesses do I get?
Unlimited. There is no losing, but every guess is counted and fewer guesses earn more XP.
Which Pokémon can be the answer?
A reviewed pool of well-known species, balanced across all nine generations. The search box only offers Pokémon that can actually be the answer.
Does this count towards the leaderboard?
It earns XP towards your level, but it does not feed the Weekly or Streak boards — those stay reserved for Connections Classic.
Are the riddles written by AI?
They are drafted by a language model from structured Pokédex facts, then filtered automatically: any riddle naming a Pokémon is rejected, any riddle echoing the source text is rejected, and a riddle is only published if it can be solved from its own wording. Nothing is invented beyond the source facts.
Can I play riddles from previous days?
Past riddles are published in the archive together with their answers, so they are for reading rather than replaying. Only today’s riddle counts towards XP.

- No.042 — My bright reef was broken apart, and I drift now as a pale wraith of the waves. My crumbling shell hums with otherworldly force, and the ectoplasm that cloaks my soul is what keeps the tide from claiming me. But beware that watery shroud — touch it, and you'll harden into stone. Cursola
- No.041 — My wings look like slabs of iron, heavy enough to be weapons, yet my bones are hollow so I cut through the sky with ease. When frayed blades of mine fall away in battle, they regrow sharp each year, and long ago people forged their swords from the very feathers I shed. Skarmory
- No.040 — Weave a carpet from my springy wool and you get something closer to a trampoline — set foot on it and you'll bounce. These majestic horns are only for show, to impress the opposite gender, never for battle. Dubwool
